Keep NM Beautiful hosts State Birthday Party

KEEP NEW MEXICO BEAUTIFUL & DUSTY ROADRUNNER HOST STATE BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATION

ALBUQUERQUE-January 4, 2012-In a tradition spanning over 30
years, Keep New Mexico Beautiful (KNMB), Inc., will again sponsor and
host a party for the state's birthday celebration on Friday, January 6,
at 11:00 a.m. in the rotunda of the State Capitol building in Santa Fe
as New Mexico marks its centennial year of statehood.
Master of Ceremonies for the occasion will be Steve
Stucker from KOB-TV Channel 4 with the help of "Dusty Roadrunner,"
KNMB's broom-pushing mascot and New Mexico's official state bird.
Participating in the celebration will be Richelle Ponder, president of
Keep New Mexico Beautiful, and Judi Pierson, executive director of the
organization, as well as KNMB board members. Also present will be Joe
Lobato, executive director of New Mexico Clean & Beautiful, the
governmental agency which oversees litter control and beautification.
Elementary school children from the Santa Fe area will also take
part in the event. The 1780's Color Guard will do the Presentation of
Colors and Governor Susanna Martinez is expected to give the keynote
address and statehood proclamation. Entertainment will be provided by
Mariachi Conquistador.
Founded in 1965, KNMB is the statewide clearinghouse for
beautification efforts through education assistance programs and
recognition. The non-profit organization supports and encourages
communities to improve their surroundings and promotes civic pride
statewide. The grants program supports environmental education projects
that enhance the public's awareness, knowledge and skills to make
informed environmental decisions and take responsible actions toward the
environment.
