Pigeon Rescue Story and Picture

Hi Mr. Stucker,

My name is Melissa LaBarre, and I teach 3rd Grade at St. Therese School in the North Valley.  Yesterday, my class found an injured pigeon in the play yard.  We were all very concerned about it, and we called animal control.  The nicest officer, A. Benavides, came to help our pigeon.  He carefully scooped him up and put him in a carrier.  He told the kids he would bring the pigeon to a vet for care and rehabilitation.  The kids were so relieved that the pigeon would be okay, and they learned a valuable lesson about stewardship and our environment.  Thought this might be something you'd like to hear about!

Peace. Melissa

Camino real Cat fanciers

Colorado Cat Fanciers

The largest cat show in Albuquerque history will be held March 5th and 6th. “Each of the twelve judges will pick their own winners, so it’s like having twelve separate shows,” explained show manager Sue Truesdell. Hundreds of pedigreed cats and some household pets will be competing for rosettes and prestige at the event which will be held at the School Arts Building at Expo New Mexico.

Forty-one breeds of cats are eligible to enter the show. Well known varieties like the Persian, Manx and Siamese may be there along with lesser known breeds like the hairless Sphynx, American Bobtail and Norwegian Forest Cats. The show is sanctioned by the Cat Fanciers Association, which is the largest cat registration association in the world. Hosts for the event are the Camino Real Cat Fanciers and Colorado Cat Fanciers.

In addition to the competition, there will be vendors with pet-related items, raffles during both days and a bake sale on Sunday. CFA Ambassadors wearing “Ask Me” buttons will be at the show to answer questions for spectators. “Most exhibitors are very pleased to talk about their cats,” Truesdell said. “They’re our hobby and our pets,” she added.

Partial profits from the event will go to Albuquerque Cat Action Team, a local no-kill rescue group. They will also have pets up for adoption at the show.

The two-day event will be held in the School Arts Building at Expo New Mexico, 300 San Pedro Dr NE. It’ll be open to the public from 8am to 4pm both Saturday and Sunday, March 5th and 6th. Spectators may enjoy the show for $5. Children under 6 may attend free.

Motorcycle Poker Run for a Friend

March 5th, it starts at RT66 Casino. Registration starts at 8:00 am through 9:30 am. The poker run has different stops throughout Albuquerque ending at Silva's lounge in the city of Bernalillo. There is a live band and many fun give aways.

Los Carnales MC is putting on the event which is a ALL Law Enforcement motorcycle club of active and retired Police Officers.

"Niko" is Nick Chavez,   retired from APD. He retired as a Sgt. after twenty years of service. He has always been loved and respected by everyone within the police community and amoung those who meet him. After retiring from APD Nick began working for as a Police Officer for for the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Department at the District Court house which he is still working there. Within the past couple of years or so, Nick was found to have Cancer and has been battling his cancer for quite some time. Nick is the type of person who has a very strong faith in GOD and has a very positive smile, therefore he has not given up the fight. He is an inspiration to everyone around him and to those who meet him. Instead of complaining about his cancer he continues with his love of helping others and of course riding his motorcycle. This is one of he main reasons he joined Los Carnales MC. because Helping others is one of he main things Los Carnales does. Once meeting Nick his big warm smile will comfort anyone and it his trademark. Unfortunatly treating cancer is very expensive above what insurance covers. Therefore, It is Los Carnales' honor to be holding this poker run for him.

Albuquerque, February 20, 2011:  Justice Great Dane Rescue (JGDR) of Albuquerque invites the public to join them in a fundraiser to raise monies for Great Danes in need. JGDR is the first not for profit Great Dane Rescue in the Albuquerque area. In its infancy (founded in 2009) JGDR has accomplished placing several Great Danes in permanent loving homes.

This fundraiser is addressing the increased inflow of animals and slowing donations experienced by shelters and rescue groups nationwide. Please join JGDR for a fun afternoon complete with Danes door prizes and more. This family event will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at ABQ DogTown, on Rio Grande Blvd just southwest of Griegos road. This event will be fun for every member of the family with children painting their own pet portraits to take home, meeting the big dogs and having your photo taken with them, and much more. The raffle drawing will be held at 3:30pm (attendance is not required to win).

The grand prize will be a custom painted portrait of the winners pet by Judith Clymer, Placitas' Pet Portrait artist. Come meet the artist, perhaps win a door prize, and join the fun. All proceeds will go directly to the Great Danes being cared for by JGDR.

JGDR is a breed specific rescue, located in Albuquerque.  It is a love for these Gentle Giants that formed JGDR. Their goal is to reduce euthanasia rates in New Mexico by helping to find forever homes for these beautiful animals. In addition to adoption JGDR provides education and support for owners and prospective owners. Help us to help them, one Dane at a time.

COMMENT: Hello I run a relatively new (founded in 2009) Great Dane rescue here in Albuquerque. I am writing you because I hope that you or your viewers might be interested in helping us to support our cause. Saturday March 5th we are hosting a fundraising event/party for Justice Great Dane Rescue (JGDR) at ABQ DogTown (3845 Rio Grande Blvd. NW). To raise money for the medical/general care of the Danes being housed with our rescue we are raffling off a chance to have your pets portrait painted by Judith Clymer, Placitas Pet Artist! In addition to the raffle there will be door prizes, opportunities for children to paint their own pet portraits and even a chance to have your photo taken with these gentle giants! Please email me for a copy of our press release as well as a photo of one of the Danes we are raising money for. The Dane pictured, Dahalia was surrendered by her owners to the Espanola Valley Humane Society. She was severely emaciated with very limited social skills when it comes to anything with fur. Dahalia will need to have BOTH her back knees replaced. At one point it is very likely she could barely walk, and while it is obvious that both her back legs give her great pain she does not let it stop her from running and playing as much as possible. JGDR will replace her knees regardless of whether or not she finds her forever home before her surgery. This beautiful dog deserves a second chance, a chance to run and jump and play pain free. We need your help to give this to her. I hope that you will attend, or spread the word as we are very excited to introduce these beautiful gentle giants to the public as well as further our efforts to help them.
