Those of us involved in the world of pets were greatly saddened to hear of the death of our friend Kari Winters.
Kari and I became friends when she placed the top bid in a Silent Auction at the Mayors Dog Ball several years ago. The prize was a Live, On-Air appearance for one of her pets on a Friday segment of Parade of Pets. Kari insisted the spot go to one of the animals from the shelter instead....so he would have a better chance at finding a good home! I knew right away she was my kind of person! We discovered she lived very near our home, and she became a visitor my wife and kids enjoyed tremendously.
Kari struggled valiantly against cancer and several other painful health problems. Yet she always kept a smile on her face and a love for animals in her heart. Right up to the end, she had a houseful of adopted and fostered dogs and cats...and was always looking for a way to help those who didn't have a place to live. Kari was deeply involved in the City of Albuquerque shelter programs, especially Kennel Compadres, the volunteers who provide so much help to the animals & staff at the city facilities..
May I encourage you to honor Kari's memory.by either adopting an animal from the COA shelters, OR by making a donation to Kennel Compadres. For information, call 311 in Albuquerque. Thanks for your consideration...and May God bless....ss

Thank you so much for this, Steve. Kari had a heart of pure gold and an amazing way with animals and people. Her loss leaves a tremendous void. Kari would be more than pleased if more cats and dogs were adopted into new "forever homes," just as she would appreciate donations to Kennel Kompadres. She always said that even a small donation would be more than they had before, and combined with others, it really adds up.
